Road crashes and unbridled traffic violations were the primordial concern of the Board when the Drivers Academy Program was formulated and introduced, through Memorandum Circular No. 2017-013. Studies generally attribute road crashes to driver’s lack of theoretical knowledge and professional trainings. In the said MC, the Driver’s Academy Program is a one (1) day training seminar designed to all PUV drivers comprising of four (4) subject/modules, namely:
Module 1: LTFRB Policies
Module 2: Road Safety
Module 3: Road Rage and Anger Management
Module 4: Traffic Signs and Road Pavements
Module 5: Good Grooming
Said training is likewise designed to test the drivers’ comprehension and skills. LTFRB personnel, in partnership with learning service providers namely De La Salle University, Ateneo De Manila University and the University of the Philippines conducts lectures based on the modules at least twice to thrice a week. Operators amiably embraced the program, hence, since its inception on August 17, 2017, the Central Office alone has now a total ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED FIFTY FIVE (1,755) participants and TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND HUNDRED SIXTY FIVE (24,465) participants nationwide. The names of these drivers-participants shall be incorporated to the existing Driver’s Database of the Board for proper monitoring.
