The Calibration and Sealing of Taxi Meters in Metro Manila yesterday, is the beginning of new modern taxis to ply its streets. GNSS receiver, free Wifi, cctv and dash cam with at least 24 hours of recording and an on-line digital platform compliant with the technical specifications of operating conditions specified in DOTr Department Order 2017-0011. These are some of the things taxi operators and petitioners for fare hike on taxi agreed on with LTFRB. Reflected in LTFRB Board Resolution no. 065 series of 2018, taxi operators agreed with the Board to install online digital platforms for connecting to their passengers/riders is required prior to calibration and sealing/resealing. However, taxis that have undergone calibration and sealing/resealing, through an executed undertaking, will have to install other required gadgets two months from the date of the calibration and sealing/resealing. Only newly authorized through dropping and substitution of taxi units are required to have full compliance of gadgets. The last increase of fare for taxi was granted in year 2010, the increase was granted considering factors such as price of petroleum, inflation and cost of living.

Advantages of new fare:
1. Easier and simpler to compute.
2. Waiting time is eliminated which is usually not caused by the passenger. (ex. Nag CR ang driver)
3. Taxi drivers will be more willing to take in passengers even with traffic because of the travel time.
4. Taxi’s will all soon be compliant with PUVMP which makes it safer, more reliable, and more convenient for passengers.
