Three Regional Franchising and Regulatory Offices of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) pushed through with the launchings of Modern Public Utility Vehicles (PUV) under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) despite the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
LTFRB Region II, led by Regional Director Edward Cabase, held the launching of five (5) Modern Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJ) for the Vizcaya Cordon Solano Transport Cooperative (VISCON) last Saturday, 31 October 2020.
Present during the ceremony were LTFRB Central Office OIC Executive Director and Region IV Director Col. Renwick Rotaquio (ret.), Region II Director Edward Cabase, LTFRB Region I Director Nasrudin Talipasan, Solano Mayor Eufemia Dacayo, Bambang Mayor Pepito Balgos, Bambang Vice Mayor Gregorio Alas Jr., and VISCON Chairman Wilson Valdez.
LTFRB Region II has awarded VISCON the Provisional Authority for the Class 3 MPUJs that will ply the Solano-Aritao route. The said PUVs are equipped with Euro-4 engines, and accessories such as CCTV, dashcams, speed limiters, Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS), and Wi-Fi.
LTFRB Region VII, led by Regional Director Eduardo Montealto, also launched 20 Modern PUJs together with the Cordova Lapu-Lapu Metro Cebu Transport Cooperative on the same day, 31 October 2020.
CLMC were also awarded Provisional Authority to traverse the route from Cordova-Lapu-Lapu City-Mandaue City to Liloan, Cebu.
LTFRB-NCR, under the esteemed leadership of Regional Director Atty. Zona Russet-Tamayo, also led the launch of 19 Modern UV Express, together with 997 Sandigan Transport Service Cooperative last Wednesday, 28 October 2020.
997 Sandigan TSC was awarded Provisional Authority for the Class 3 Modern UV Express units that will ply the SM Fairview – Buendia Ave. route.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, LTFRB stays true to the agency’s objective of PUV modernization to provide safe, secure, and comfortable public transportation, while also adhering to strict public health protocols.
The PUV Modernization Program is the flagship, non-infrastructure project of the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte with the goal of providing a comfortable life for all Filipinos through a safe, reliable, convenient, affordable and environmentally-sustainable public transportation system in the country.
